A delegation led by HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), visited Huawei, a leading global Information and Communications Technology (ICT) company, in Shanghai, China. The visit aimed to enhance mutual relationships and share best practices and experiences in the fields of innovation, disruptive technologies, smart networks, digital transformation, automation, cloud platforms, and artificial intelligence (AI).
Al Tayer was accompanied by Marwan Bin Haidar, Executive Vice President of Innovation and the Future at DEWA; Waleed Salman, Executive Vice President of Business Development and Excellence; and Dr. Yousef Al Akraf, Executive Vice President of Business Support and Human Resources at DEWA.
At the Huawei headquarters, Al Tayer and the accompanying delegation met with Guo Ping, Rotating Chairman of Huawei; Jerry Ji, President of Global Energy Sector; Charles Yang, President of Middle East Region at Huawei Technologies; Terry He, President of Middle East Enterprise Group; and Li Shi, CEO of Huawei UAE.
In line with the Smart Dubai initiative launched by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to make Dubai the happiest and smartest city in the world, Al Tayer signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Guo Ping, to build a partnership that achieves the strategic objectives of both parties; including the co-creation of digital services, co-marketing of digital products in the UAE and around the world, and the co-sharing of the value created from these businesses enabled services.
As per the MoU, a joint research and development team will be established for new initiatives, including the development of an advanced networking infrastructure backbone and access, and of a network self-healing mechanism. It also includes Internet of Things (IoT) technology, cloud services that comprise cloud solutions and pre-fab data centre facilities, smart city initiatives, digital services, and AI.
Al Tayer and the accompanying delegation also visited Huawei Connect Worldwide 2018 – Huawei’s largest exhibition in the global ICT ecosystem that attracts more than 20,000 leading ICT professionals from more than 120 countries annually.
During the tour, Al Tayer was briefed on Huawei’s innovative cloud solutions, ICT infrastructure, and the great potential it provides for system integration and resource security.
